Welcome to Kesher Shalom!
Kesher Shalom is an unconventional synagogue whose members explore Judaism in an intimate environment of learning, spirituality and community. Our synagogue offers a Jewish experience that blends into the fabric of our busy lives. As such, member families gather once per month for thought-provoking programs that meld education, spirituality, a shared meal, and community service. In “Shalom School” (our religious school), small groups of one to four students meet once weekly, for one to one-and-a-half hours. Education includes Jewish holiday and bible study and Hebrew language instruction, as well as preparation for bar/bat mitzvah in individual, student-centered, tutorials.
A synagogue without walls, we currently meet at the Abington Arts Center in Jenkintown. There, we will hold our Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services for 2010. We are blessed to be led by our new exuberant and wise rabbi, Elisa Goldberg. Rabbi Elisa’s exuberance and inspiration make Kesher Shalom a unique pleasure for our members.
Moving into our sixth year, Kesher Shalom is out of its formative stage and has evolved as a sharing inclusive community of twenty families. Our growth over the last five years has allowed us to increase the depth and breadth of our programs while maintaining the intimate “feel” of Kesher Shalom. Our programs are driven by our highly participatory and diverse membership. Each person has something to offer to, and in turn benefits from, the group. We welcome anyone who is interested discussing, learning and sharing their experiences. At Kesher Shalom, Judaism is recognized as a dynamic religion, one which builds on the past, honors the present, and looks to the future.
